Government Introduced new bill against Tax defaulters: Tax Amendment Bill 2024

The government has tightened the noose against tax defaulters. The government has introduced a new amendment bill. The Tax Laws Amendment Bill 2024 has been presented in the National Assembly by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. Various things have been said in the Tax Laws Amendment Bill 2024.

1. It has been recommended to ban non-filers from opening bank accounts and operating existing accounts.

2. It has been proposed to ban non-filers from buying vehicles larger than 800 cc.

3. Non-filers will be able to buy rickshaws, motorcycles and tractors, in addition to small vehicles.

4. Non-filers will not be able to buy property and shares above a certain limit.

5. The bill proposes that the property and business of non-filers be sealed by the government.

6. Bank accounts can be frozen even if sales tax is not registered.

7. There will be a ban on the transfer of property by the relevant persons if sales tax is not paid.

8. Names of tax defaulters and non-filers to be published in FBR list.

9. The List of tax defaulters will be shared with various banks and other government institutions.

10. FBR will have the authority to report high-risk transactions exceeding income of non-filers.

11. FBR will have to install point-of-sale devices in Islamabad city.

12. Proposal to impose penalty on those businesses that sold things without paid tax stamp or barcode.

13. FBR is facing Rs 230 crore shortfall in tax revenue of the current fiscal year.
